MESSAGE FROM AIDN CEO BRENT CLARK
Firstly I want to thank those of you that have contacted me and offered their support in this role.
I absolutely am committed to driving the best outcome for Australian Industry.
We have learnt a lot about ourselves and the challenges that face Australia over the last few weeks, and hopefully you have all managed to escape the COVID-19 pandemic as best as you can.
I know that many of you with diverse businesses have suffered downturns in your turnover, many of you have had to reduce staffing numbers and undoubtedly are struggling to keep your collective heads above water.
Now more than ever we need the ability to state our collective case to Defence, the Defence Prime contractors and Government.
In order to effect change we as an association need to work together as a whole, there is a great deal of strength in the collective working together to ensure that Australian Industry is given the opportunity to become a vital element of the supply chain for the myriad of projects being undertaken.
However I also understand the concerns of ‘sticking your heads’ above the trench. Please rest assured that AIDN National will always seek the input, opinions and advice of the State and Territory Chapters and gladly accept suggestions directly from individual members. It is important to me that you provide these suggestions so that I can properly represent your issues. Therefore you should all understand that I will treat any information or input with absolute confidentiality.
Your information will not be passed to any organisation – it is my role to advocate for you and therefore it is my role to absorb whatever response or reaction that occurs so that you can provide suggestions in an anonymous and secure environment.
On another note I am very happy for members to contact me to discuss any issues that they individually may have.
Once the boarders are open I look forward to getting the opportunity to engage with as many of you face to face that I can.

Reflecting the increasing importance of the Indo Pacific region to the entire world, the PACIFIC International Maritime Exposition will become the INDO PACIFIC International Maritime Exposition from 2022. Initially, there will be a new timing. Instead of the previously planned PACIFIC dates in August 2021, INDO PACIFIC will now, in the wake of COVID 19, initially be held during May 2022. Specific dates will be advised later this year.

DEFENCE INDUSTRY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Department of Defence Industry is sponsoring another round of engineering internships this year. The initiative is administered by QTAC, who will oversee the placement of 70 engineering students at participating SME’s around the country for a 12 week internship. It is particularly hoped to see positions open up in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania, as these states have been under represented in previous years.
The internships generally commence in November/December each year and finish around February/March the following year. SME’s receive financial remuneration from the Department of Defence Industry for hosting an intern and are directed to the website www.diip.com.au where more details can be found. Applications for new SME’s close on 5th June 2020 so please get your application form in as soon as possible.
The accompanying brochure gives an overview of the program and highlights just a few of the many success stories from last year’s program
