QINETIQ AUSTRALIA
QinetiQ Australia has been awarded a contract to design and construct an unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flight test range (FTR) on behalf of the Queensland Government.
The FTR will be located at Cloncurry Aerodrome in North West Queensland and will consist of access to a commercial quality runway, dedicated hangar and workshop, range control centre, range control system including a primary surveillance radar and other surveillance and tracking equipment, dedicated airspace and regulatory approvals for UAS FTR operations.
The initial capability offered by the facility will support all weight classes of UAS for routine flying operations, demonstration activities and test and evaluation trials of moderate complexity. Future phases of development will support the full range of ground and flight test activity, providing an Australian home for the conduct of highly complex developmental test programs.

NAVANTIA AUSTRALIA
Navantia Australia announced the recent signing of a document outlining Principles for a strategic agreement between Defence and Navantia Australia, recognising Navantia Australia as a Design Authority for all classes of Navantia designed vessels, current and future, in-service with the Royal Australian Navy.
The agreement was signed on-board HMAS Hobart in Sydney on Sunday, 17 May 2020 by VADM Michael Noonan, AO, Chief of Navy, and Navantia Australia Chairman, Mr Warren King.
Under the Agreement Navantia Australia will work towards establishing a digital ship as a means to enhance the service level for each class of ship. This will ensure that the design integrity, configuration control, upgrades and modernisation of Navantia designed ships and supplied systems and equipment is fully supported in Australia.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR DECISION MAKING INITIATIVE NOW OPEN
The Artificial Intelligence for Decision Making Initiative (the Initiative) is a collaborative project between the Office of National Intelligence (ONI) and the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group, to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) expertise and capability in areas of significant importance to the Australian defence and national security community.
The Initiative is a national program being delivered through the Defence Science Centre (DSC), the Defence Science Institute (DSI), the Defence Innovation Network (DIN) and the Defence Innovation Partnership (DIP) that aims to inspire solutions that will grow Australia’s AI capability and foster a national network focused on developing AI and ML technology.
The Initiative will provide individuals or small teams with three-month project funding of up to $20,000 for pilot project proposals based on 23 AI and ML Challenge questions. Successful applicants could also have the opportunity to become part of a national network, or have project prototypes progressed through the Defence Artificial Intelligence Centre (DAIC), or defence and university sectors.
