DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE INTRODUCES NEW SECURITY PROTOCOLS FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH
Defence has introduced new security protocols to ensure that information generated or exchanged as part of a collaborative research program is properly assessed for its sensitivity and security classification, and protected in accordance with Defence policy.
These protocols are outlined in the Defence Research Collaboration Security Framework (DRCSF).
Under the DRCSF, depending on the sensitivity or security classification of the research collaboration, collaborators with Defence may be required to:
Agree to implement specific security arrangements required by Defence;
Achieve and maintain a specified level of membership of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) and;
Ensure that personnel participating in the collaborative research program have a specified level of security clearance, where required.
Currently the DRCSF applies to collaborative research activities with the Defence Science and Technology Group, but is being progressively extended to other Defence groups and services.

The US Air Force, the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and the UK Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has brought together a coalition of UK and US partners to pilot the first Allied Defence Accelerator and International Space Pitch Day. The Accelerator and Pitch Day model represents an innovative way of working, ensuring that UK and US Defence are able to keep up with the rapid pace of commercial technology development. We aim to connect world-class space innovation to military end-users at pace, supported by business and commercialisation training referred to as the Allied Defence Accelerator, provided by the internationally-recognised accelerator Starburst Aerospace.
On behalf of the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), the UK MOD and US DoD, DASA is looking for potential defence solutions that are able to keep pace with the rapid technological change seen in the commercial sector. This competition is therefore focussed on technologies that have proven commercial value, with potential to be applied to military space capability problems.Your solution may therefore be an adaptation of an existing non-defence solution.
