Steve Ludwig

Steve has been Director/Owner of a small family owned wholesale distribution business based in Darwin for the past 5 years and has recently established an Industrial and Construction Services business to supply into the Defence, Oil/Gas, Resources and Renewables Industries. In addition to supplying Industrial and Construction consumables the business also provides 3PL capability in the NT. Prior to this, he spent approximately 30 years in Private Industry, primarily in the Resources Industry where he worked for two of the largest mining companies in the world.

He has a range of commodity experience including, Diamonds, Energy Coal, Iron Ore, Manganese, Base Metals, Greenfields and Brownfields exploration projects. Prior to leaving the Resources Industry he was General Manager Operations for a large polymetallic base metals operation located 100kms south of Darwin. He has travelled extensively to remote mining and exploration areas both in Australia and South East Asia and has lived abroad both in Kalimantan and Jakarta, Indonesia. Steve has also spent time in the Defence Sector having worked for a major International Defence Contractor in the Alice Springs region of the NT.


Jim Walker

Jim commenced his career with 8 years’ service in the Royal Australian Survey Corps. Following the Corps disbandment Jim worked in the surveying, GIS and the land development sector in the Eastern States with private firms, and some notable government agencies including VicRoads and The Brisbane City Council. Early in 2000 Jim moved his work focus to remote areas taking on roles in resource exploration through Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. More recently he has been in management roles with NT based surveying and Land Development firms, who are active in the provision of services to the Defence and Resources industries.

Jim has landmark project experience including the Flinders Street Tunnel Melbourne Vic, Hume Hwy Duplication NSW, Darwin LNG Construction NT, INPEX LNG Construction NT, Dunham River Bridge WA, Olympic Dam Mine SA and Ranger Uranium Mine NT.


Grant Orr

Grant is a senior executive who has worked for medium and large organisations managing teams of diverse individuals.  As a  General Manager, Operational and Contract executive Grant has accumulated over 30 years’ experience, been a productive member of National Executive Management Teams with the responsibility and accountability for managing 23 sites and over 650 employees servicing the Defence industry. With a sound understanding and passion for the leadership of people and belief a solid stable workforce is the foundation to success a leaders greatest strengths is the ability to engage people with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experience to create a team of people that work together effectively. Within his career Grant has been responsible for leading multi-disciplinary teams including transport and logistics, maintenance, manufacturing, hospitality, estate management, security, warehouse and contract management. Roles have included liaising with all stakeholders including Defence and Government personnel, contractors, managers, employees, and unions.

A key driver maximising performance and delivering positive improvements to business outcomes through rationalising and reengineering operations, introducing financial controls to lower cost structures which in turn has effectively enhanced all KPIs as well as budgeting outcomes. The success achieved to date is through analysing operational processes utilising Lean Principles with a view of eliminating waste through all aspects of operations ensuring goals are being met and operations are sustainable. Grant has often served as a catalyst for organisational culture change, advocating for improvements in client service/satisfaction, workplace safety, and professionalism to meet and exceed all stakeholder needs. 

Annette Souter

Annette Souter is a founding Director and Business and Contracts Manager of AJ Technology Services, a Northern Territory communications, security and audio visual business. Annette has provided contract and administrative direction for the company for multi-million projects for government, industry and defence. She is also director of Inovar4, a Timorese company providing similar services throughout Timor Leste. Coupled with a branch office in Toowoomba, Queensland, AJ Technology Services undertakes installation and maintenance services throughout all Defence bases in the Northern Territory and Queensland. Annette also has broader experience undertaking geological work in the minerals sector as well as fisheries management, engagement and governance for NT Fisheries.


Matt Strudwick


A project manager, employed by SAGE Automation, with over 15 years’ experience in the electrical and Defence industry. Matt has managed and provided technical expertise on multiple defence installations within Australia and overseas. Matt and his wife are committed residents of the Northern Territory, supporting the local community while raising their two children.  

Jonathon Hewitson

Jonathon is the Continuous Improvement Manager for Aurecon within the Program Management Office contributing to the delivery of the Project Delivery Service. Jonathon has over 12 years of experience in Commercial Construction and Facilities and Asset Management industry. Jonathon has unique experience managing multipurpose buildings, engaging with large numbers of stakeholders with conflicting interests and managing a Portfolio of projects with wide ranges in scope, methodologies, outcomes and project values.

Jonathon’s role focusses on the client outcomes and benefits of business improvements and being a leader of change. In his work as part of AIDN he has contributed strongly to the Young Defence Professional Network and is passionate about growing Darwin’s and NTs capacity and capability within the Defence Industry to help meet the challenges ahead.
